"In nature, as in life, things are seldom as they immediately appear. Layers of dirt may obscure a fine mineral specimen. Our skin protects and hides our internal organs. Bark on a tree cloaks the moist center of concentric rings. The surface of the ocean gives only a hint of the rich world beneath. So also goes this series of paintings. Many translucent layers are built up; therefore inviting the viewer to look closely for the partially obscured images within." |
